More About Me
Welcome! Thank you for taking the time to get to know me a little better. I am an assistant professor in the Industrial and Systems Engineering department at Ohio University. More specifically, I am a Human Factors Engineer studying human-computer interaction, usability, and cognitive engineering in the context of Augmented Reality (AR) technologies and games.
I work on developing AR, human-centered computing and HCI, UX, and game science research while facilitating the next generation of scholars.
Please explore this portfolio or refer to my CV for more details. This website highlights some of my work, but my CV is far more extensive. If you have any questions, I can be reached at: cassidynelson@ohio.edu Even if you don't have any questions, I'd love to chat!
Hobbies and Interests
I hail from rural Kansas and am a proud first-generation college student. I am the first in my family to achieve a bachelor's, master's, and Ph.D., and the first to move out of Kansas. My journey into Human Factors began with a serendipitous, 5-minute hallway conversation with a research mentor I happened to bump into. This conversation changed my entire career trajectory and has instilled in me a deep thoughtfulness about the influence we wield as colleagues, educators, and mentors.
In my spare time, I enjoy playing video games, reading, watching documentaries (and anime), hiking, drawing, and spending quality time with my little dog Lucy. I am a huge fan of compelling narratives in any medium (movies, games, books, etc.) and I am terrible at fighting games (looking at you Guilty Gear Strive). I listen to a little something from every music genre, though I must confess I particularly enjoy rock music.
I'm am taking students for the 2025 academic year. I'm also eager to connect about collaborations, research, service, teaching strategies... and, of course music, games, books, etc. :)
